Good weather at the very beginning of September inspires a new trip. The first of September fell on a Sunday. Therefore, we drove 100 kilometers of German autobahns, on which there were practically no trucks, very quickly. And here it is Quedlinburg – the pearl of Saxony-Anhalt from the UNESCO World Heritage List (see my previous article on UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Saxony-Anhalt)!
An important component of a road trip is the availability of good parking. A certain life hack can be the presence of Kaufland, Lidl or Netto supermarkets in the city near the center. On Sundays, you can almost always leave your car there for free for 3-4 hours. In Quedlinburg, the nearest supermarket is 900 m from the center. I carefully chose the parking lot so that it was close to the Marktplatz and provided services inexpensively. That is why Parkplatz Altstadt Mitte with a price of € 1 per hour was the best – it is located only 500 m from Maktplatz. And the fact that it is possible to pay by card was a bonus, which is a rarity for Central Germany.
When you dive deep into the city, it is as if you are entering the distant past, three or four centuries ago. You don’t have time to admire the half-timbered buildings, because every building is a work of architectural art. In the almost two hours that we spent in the center of Quedlinburg, we managed to visit the wonderful Half-timbered Museum, which is located in a 14th-century building, walk around the Marktplatz and nearby streets, eat sausages and see the city’s marathon competition. Another life hack: the free toilet is located on Blasiistrasse between the Cultural Church St. Blasii and Schuhhaus Naumann.
We still had to visit Quedlinburg Castle and the Münzenberg area near the castle. Parking near hotels here costs € 3 per hour, so I took a risk and parked in a free space near residential buildings. Usually, you can do this on Sunday if you have to go for 30-45 minutes. The Castle Hill offers a wonderful view of the central part of Quedlinburg. And Münzenberg somewhat reminds me of Kyiv’s Podil, but, in my opinion, although much smaller, it is more picturesque and authentic. In general, Quedlinburg is a must-visit city if you are interested in the history and architecture of Germany, or just want to visit cool Instagram spots.
For those who do not have the opportunity to travel in Germany by car, I invite you to our Telegram channel “Club of Fine Travels”. Here you will be able to order a tour of Saxony-Anhalt in Ukrainian, Russian, English and more.
