Regenerative Landscapes Initiative (RLI) is an international, multi-stakeholder platform focused on restoring natural ecosystems while creating sustainable economic opportunities for local communities.
The initiative brings together experts, public institutions, private sector actors, and development partners to design and implement integrated landscape solutions across Europe, Africa, and Central Asia.
The Challenge
Across many regions, landscapes are under increasing pressure:
- soil degradation and loss of biodiversity
- water scarcity and climate vulnerability
- declining rural economies
- fragmented development efforts without long-term impact
Traditional project-based approaches often fail to address these challenges systematically.
Our Approach
RLI is built on a simple but powerful idea:
landscapes must be treated as integrated systems — ecological, economic, and social at the same time.
We combine:
- nature-based solutions and ecosystem restoration
- local economic development and livelihood creation
- tourism and destination development as growth drivers
- investment structuring and donor alignment
This allows moving from isolated interventions to scalable, fundable landscape programs.
Key Components
- Ecosystem Restoration
Rebuilding soil health, water systems, and biodiversity through nature-based approaches - Community & Economic Development
Supporting local livelihoods, SMEs, and value chains - Tourism & Destination Development
Creating sustainable tourism models linked to restored landscapes - Education & Capacity Building
Engaging local stakeholders and building long-term competencies - Investment & Funding Frameworks
Structuring projects to attract public and private financing
Geographic Focus
The initiative is currently being developed across:
- Eastern Europe (including Ukraine)
- Central Asia
- East Africa
with pilot landscapes under exploration in partnership with local stakeholders and international experts.
Pilot Activities (in progress)
Kyrgyzstan – Apple Orchard (Issyk-Kul region)
- Status: pilot initiated (Spring 2026)
- Format: small-scale comparative test (treated vs. control plots)
- Objective: observe impact on soil moisture, plant vitality, stress resistance
- Timeline: first observations expected within 4–8 weeks
Partnership Model
RLI operates through a flexible partnership structure:
- international experts and advisory partners
- local implementation organizations
- public sector institutions
- donor and development agencies
The initiative is open to collaboration with organizations interested in developing integrated landscape projects.
Role of Fainin Advisory
Fainin Advisory acts as:
- initiator and strategic coordinator of the initiative
- architect of project design and partnership structures
- facilitator between local stakeholders and international partners
- advisor on funding strategies and investment frameworks
From Concept to Implementation
One of the key elements of RLI is the transition from idea to money.
To support this, projects within the initiative can be structured using:
Regional Investment Blueprint (RIB)
— a methodology designed to transform complex regional ideas into clear, fundable, and implementable projects.
