🛠️ Project Overview
In 1999, Oleksandr Fainin embarked on a mission to revolutionize Ukraine’s hospitality sector by introducing the concept of hostels—a novel idea at the time. This initiative led to the establishment of the country’s first hostel in Uzhhorod in 2004. Through the registered trademark “Youth Tourism and Hostels of Ukraine,” a network of 26 budget and mid-range accommodations was developed across various regions.
The project also spearheaded the development of e-tourism in Ukraine, culminating in the nation’s first international e-tourism conference in 2009. Collaborations with global online travel agencies like HostelWorld, HostelBookers, HostelsClub, and Expedia were instrumental in promoting Ukrainian hostels to a broader audience.
By 2013, the project concluded, having laid the groundwork for a thriving hostel culture in Ukraine. Today, over 200 officially registered hostels operate nationwide, a testament to the project’s lasting impact.
